Mediation is used to resolve a broad range of conflicts within a variety of settings. The Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators was designed to serve as fundamental ethical guidelines for persons mediating in all practice contexts. They serve three primary goals: to guide the conduct of mediators; to inform the mediating parties; and to promote public confidence in mediation as a process for resolving disputes.
Clients of mediation have a right to expect their mediator/co-mediator will conduct the process in accordance with certain principles in the following areas:
- Self-Determination
- Impartiality
- Conflict of Interest
- Competence
- Confidentiality
- Quality of the Process
- Advertising and Solicitation
- Fees and Other Charges
- Advancement of Mediation Practice
For more information on each of these standards, please review the full text of the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators.
